UNIVERSITY CHANCELLOR
The current Chancellor for th Africa University of Guidance, Counselling and Youth Development is Dr. Tom Clawson.
The Chancellor is the chief executive officer of the University and a member of the academic unit. The Chancellor is elected by the Board of Trustees, and the Chancellor's term of office is at the pleasure of the board. The Chancellor attends the meetings of the board and participates in its deliberations; acting with freedom within the lines of general policy approved by the board; preparing the annual budgets for presentation to the board; and recommending to the board suitable persons for positions in the University, including appointments to appropriate administrative positions, other than academic, which are not provided for in the Statutes.
In case of exigencies and acting within the proper jurisdiction, the Chancellor makes appointments so that the work of the University is not interrupted. The Chancellor is responsible for the enforcement of the rules and regulations of the University; makes such recommendations to the board and to the University Senate as the Chancellor deems desirable for the proper conduct and development of the University; and issues diplomas, conferring degrees, but only on the recommendation of the appropriate senate and by authority of the University Council.
The Chancellor designates the Vice Chancellor to exercise the functions of the Chancellor during his absence from duty.
